Your Mission

As a Scientific Content Creator (Chemistry), you will help our amazing team in creating the next generation of 3D education solutions and expand and maintain our chemistry catalog. You will be part, and collaborate with, our amazing content team to create our new chemistry simulations under an agile mindset.

NOTE: This position will be fully remote for a 1-year contract (with the possibility for an extension) and the preferred start date is the 6th of April 2021.

Your Profile

You are definitely an imaginative and creative person. You are also a bit of a perfectionist, but no worries, that is an advantage! Changing the world is not an easy task, and those details are what make the difference. Fast learning and being able to adapt to a rapidly changing environment are great qualities to have, as Labster is evolving fast, and we’re all part of shaping the journey. Effective communication of the projects’ development is essential for success. Last but not least, you are definitely a team player. Developing a simulation requires a team effort and your expertise in science will play an important role there.

Your responsibilities

  • Collaborating with the content team to create the “simulation flow” for new chemistry simulations. Use your imagination to design virtual experiences for high-school and university students, while ensuring that storyline, theory and quiz questions all come together (it's almost like writing a movie script).
  • Collaborating closely with the rest of the development team (developers, artists and quality assurance) to build and improve simulations. This is a group effort, where you, in particular, will bring your scientific knowledge and writing skills to the table. Be ready to test simulations and iterate through them to meet scientific accuracy and high-quality standards, while making sure that the students have fun.
  • Maintain and improve the writing style and spread the knowledge about good practices for scientific writing and science communication.
  • Assessing potential scientific issues in simulations.

 Requirements

  • Strong passion for science and education.
  • You have a strong background in chemistry, minimum a bachelor’s degree in chemistry.
  • You have a background in science communication and/or scientific writing (i.e. degree in journalism or demonstrable experience as a scientific writer)
  • You possess excellent written and spoken English skills, close to native- level.
  • We don’t expect you to have coding experience, but it’s an advantage to have a  tech-savvy mindset that will allow you to quickly learn all the tools and processes we are using in the development process.
  • You are effective while working in a remote and distributed environment.
  • Experience within science communication is a plus.
  • You are truly interested in technology and multimedia.

What do we offer?

  • Work fully remotely with somewhat flexible hours as long as the goals are achieved
  • A fun opportunity to work for an exciting company with NO DULL CORPORATE LIFESTYLE.
  • You will have the opportunity to take part in very exciting projects and to work for a company with a noble vision.

About Labster

At Labster we are dedicated to empowering the next generation of scientists to change the world. Our mission is to develop fully interactive software that makes learning both fun, engaging and effective, and to make it accessible to as many science students as possible (see short trailer here). Since 2012, our simulations were played over 4,000,000 times and each semester more than 4,000 universities, high schools and other institutions around the globe are using them to enhance their teaching programs.

We govern ourselves by using a flat-hierarchy system called Holacracy that is focused on roles, collaboration and distributed leadership. We believe in flexible work hours and a good work-life balance, and while we love to achieve great things via concentrated work, it’s incredibly important for us to have happy and engaged team members.
